Volunteers at PDSA can start at 14 years old. We meet lots of young people, passionate about animals, who want to help us by donating their time. If you’re one of them volunteering with us is an excellent way to gain experience. Volunteering in our shops can build your confidence too. You’ll meet people of all ages and know that everything you do is helping to get more of our furry friends back on four paws.
Help our high street shops
If you like meeting people, volunteer at a PDSA shop. You’ll be joining a friendly team and there are lots of different things you could do. It’s fun, you’ll learn new skills for the future, meet new people and it’s great for your CV too. You may be welcoming and helping customers. You might fancy helping in the stock room, getting goods ready for sale and maybe spotting a designer label or two. It feels great too, knowing that you are making a real difference to helping pets by raising funds and awareness of PDSA’s work.
Key things you’ll learn:
- Customer service skills.
- Retail skills from a professional retailer.
- How to create stylish windows and displays.
- How to find valuable ‘gems’ in our donations.
Help keep our offices running
You’ll be part of our fun, friendly team; we’ll teach you new skills and give you lots of new experiences that will look great on your CV to help you in the future. Are you a wonder at Word or do you excel at Excel? Are you helpful, adaptable and great at admin? Maybe you’re a whiz at filing or have the perfect friendly telephone manner. We’ve lots of different departments from finance, marketing and education to fundraising and volunteering – so we’ll find one, or a few that are right for you. Most (but not all) of our office roles are based at our Head Office in Telford, Shropshire. Come and play a vital part at PDSA and the work that we do.
Key things you’ll learn:
- See how a charity works from the inside.
- How to talk to customers on the telephone.
- How to keep our admin ship-shape.
- Practice your Microsoft Office skills.
Work Experience placements
We offer School Work Experience (SWE) in our shops and offices. SWE is a fantastic way to get great experience in the fast paced world of retail or behind the scenes at PDSA HQ. Just fill in our Volunteer Enquiry Form to get more information.
Unfortunately we can’t offer SWE in our Pet Hospitals but if you’d like to spend your SWE getting hands on with our furry friends you can find other charities here.
Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards with PDSA
PDSA is an Approved Activity Provider for the DofE (Duke of Edinburgh’s Award). This means we are one of a few charities that DofE licence to provide volunteering opportunities for young people. Being an AAP means PDSA provide great volunteering experiences that DofE participants can use towards the volunteering section of their award. You can do your DofE in one of our shops or offices. Unfortunately we don’t offer DofE in our Pet Hospitals
If you’re between 14-25 and are thinking about volunteering with PDSA, why not take a look at the DofE website. You could get an award whilst helping your favourite charity too!
